Abstract

The hypothesis of "quasi-isotropic CFRP" was proposed considering that CFRP was constituted by multiple layers. An analytical model of eddy-current problem in CFRP-bond-steel media was constructed and its integral solution was obtained on the basis of the axisymmetric eddy-current field. The integral solution was transformed into series expansions for the convenience in calculation and accuracy controll, then Mathematica was used to get the numeral value of coil impedance change. Finally, the practical anisotropic CFRP was modeled in COMSOL Multiphysics to validate the analytical results and the "quasi-isotropic CFRP" hypothesis. This research can provide a theoretical basis for eddy-current testing to be used in CFRP-strengthened steel structures.
