Abstract

This paper considers the interference mitigation problem for radar systems by focusing on emerging signal separation (decomposition) methods. We define appropriate transform domains to sparsely represent the interference and the signal of interest to separate them from each other. To show the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm at actual radar systems, the method is applied to real data from two different radar systems; The proposed method is applied to an automotive radar to mitigate the asynchronous interference caused by other automotive radars. Following, the proposed method is demonstrated on a polarimetric agile radar for synchronous mutualinterference mitigation. Significant improvements are observed at the signal-to-interference ratio (SIR) for both radar systems during the course of experiments.
