Abstract

In The Green City, four urban building researchers and professionals explain in a straightforward way how ecological sustainability can be embodied in homes, communities and cities. Following a discussion of the global agenda for research on sustainability, the authors focus on four critical aspects of urban life: housing, open spaces, workplaces and transport. At the end they suggest possible policies and strategies for the future. What makes this book especially valuable is the exhaustive number of examples that illustrate each chapter; these examples can be a source of inspiration for many readers. The addition of a ‘further reading’ section at the end of each chapter is also very useful for those who want to gain more in-depth knowledge. Perhaps equally helpful are the various frames with definitions of concepts, laws and agreements. […]
