Abstract

The current and expected increase of traffic demand can not be matched with expansion of road infrastructure. Nor will traditional traffic management measures suffice in the long run. As a consequence we are faced with increasing congestion, an unreliable road network as well as safety and environmental problems. As part of the TRANSUMO program we propose an approach to traffic management in which the development of functions and systems is integrated with an analysis and improvement of the cooperation between the stakeholders that are involved.
