Abstract
Product development teams that employ traditional plan-oriented approaches usually struggle in facing and solving the effects of severe influences that impact an ongoing development process. Such events usually affect the capability of the companies to complete the product without excessive delays or economical efforts. Consequently, this research suggests a tentative framework that aims to improve the understanding of how such events unfold. We will use causal networks to create clear representations of these events and simplify their understanding and the comparison among different events. This understanding is both scientifically and managerially relevant as a first step to deal with these events.
