Abstract

Hyperbolic metamaterials are anisotropic materials of which the product of the eigenvalues of the permittivity matrix is negative. They have interesting properties such as that all extra-ordinary polarized plane waves are propagating, i.e. for this polarization there are no evanescent waves. I will discuss some interesting consequences for waveguides that are made of these materials.
