Abstract
Current subsidence estimates for policymaking do not take into account all geological features, such as discontinuities and heterogeneities. Furthermore, calibration of the subsurface models with measurements remains limited. Femke Vossepoel explains the basics of subsurface modelling for subsidence and introduces the important role of the data assimilation technique.
