Description
Metropolitan agglomerations are prevalent in the 21st century, challenging researchers and administrators due to their magnitude, complexity and territorial problems. Currently, around 2.6 billion people live in 1,934 metropolises around the world, representing 60 per cent of the world's urban population.
As a phenomenon present all over the world, the large metropolitan areas of the 21st century face complex challenges related to disordered urbanisation, social and environmental inequalities, including environmental sustainability, water and energy resources, and landscape preservation.
The International Seminar The Latin American metropolitan question: phenomenon, governance and institutionalisation is therefore presented as a place to accompany and reflect on the metropolitan phenomenon and its governance, recognising the changes and alterations in metropolitan agglomerations and the need for public policies and institutions that link them to the urban and rural network in Latin American countries.
