Activity: Talk or presentation › Talk or presentation at a workshop, seminar, course or other meeting
Lecture held at Witherford Watson Mann architects, London, UK.
This talk is directed towards the young artists. It is about beginnings, consciousness, finding one’s place, and about, having found it, how one might begin. The beginning has been an important motif in my work, whether architecture or art or writing or teaching. And from an early moment, I have understood that the beginning is not a zero condition, not a tabula rasa, but a moment of encounter with what is already there; with an other, with others, with those who have gone before; with those who have thought and lived and made before us, and left us the environments that we live with and in, utterances of others who have preceded us: a world of others.
