Digital social innovation: Disruptive Technologies and Social Impacts

We are living in an age of disruption and transition, our society is increasingly digitalized and transforming into a participatory, collaborative, and circular economy. Digital technologies have moved from professional, to personal, towards the public realm. Societal challenges ask for changes in urban infrastructures and governmental structures, but also in our personal lifestyles and daily lives. Can disruptive technologies lead to social impacts? If we look more broadly to innovation in the context of societal challenges, we do see a large number of niches: initiatives, experiments, and places, where people are working in a completely different way: outside in, reflexively, facilitating social innovation. In this keynote, I will elaborate on the disruptive and transformative role of design as a catalyzer to drive societal change.
