Symposium Repositioning Urban Design: Projections, Limits, Encounters

Activity: Talk or presentationTalk or presentation at a conference

Description

What is the role and positionality of Urban Design amidst the current context of multiple social and ecological crises? The one-day symposium organized by the section of Urban Design at TU Delft with occasion of the Month of Urban Design, will set to explore this question by bringing together established and emerging voices.

Presentations and debates will be addressing the disciplinary relationship of Urban Design to the broader ecosystem of design, the spatial disciplines, and beyond, as well as its socio-political relevance and agency. The symposium is structured around three axes, corresponding to three panels, with the intention to encourage cross sections between and beyond them: the first panel, Encounters, will encourage meaningful interdisciplinary conversations and their connection to urban design pedagogy; the second panel, Limits, will question the potentials and limitations of urban design as a form of critical inquiry and creative practice; the third panel, Projections, will explore the agency of urban design as it strives to respond to ongoing social and ecological urgencies. The symposium is a core event of the Urban Design month at TU Delft, a series of activities and initiatives aiming to reflect upon the past and present of the discipline, and anticipate its future positionality within an increasingly urbanized world.
