Researcher, Consultant, Professor - Design and Artificial Intelligence

As a Coordinator/Researcher AI in the Industrial Design Engineering (IDE) Faculty at TU Delft, Phil is building a sustainable research effort in IDE for the design of Artificial Intelligence — connecting research with public and private funding. As part of this, he is the organiser of the successful annual Design & AI Symposium series.

Phil is a researcher, consultant (commotion.ai), and educator with experience in startup, corporate, entertainment, and research contexts. He is an innovator at the intersection of tangible interaction, AI/ML, IoT, media, and the new ecologies these create. Working in a range of platforms and scales, he discovers new approaches and possibilities, bringing them to life in thoughtful and surprising ways.

As a Professor Emeritus and founding Professor in the Media Design Practices MFA program at Art Center College of Design, Phil helped build a dynamic department and introduced an innovative new creative technology curriculum incorporating tangible interaction, AI, and other advanced technological design materials.
