A more user-centered redesign of the OV-chipkaart, developed in the OV-chipkaart Graduation Lab, won the annual ABC Trophy of the ABC Foundation (Stichting ABC), a charity for people across the Netherlands with literacy problems. The project received the award because of the way it makes the public transport chip card more convenient for people with literacy problems. Through the use of colours and symbols, improved timing and more helpful texts, the public transport chip card has been made more user-friendly for people with literacy issues and poor vision. Each of the three nominees gave a brief presentation about their project before the winner was chosen by the members of the foundation (the members are people with literacy problems).
