Ethical perspectives on robotisation in construction

Activity: Talk or presentationTalk or presentation at a conference

Description

In construction industry, the effects of robotisation are gradually becoming noticeable. Much serial work and heavy labour has been taken over by machines, which, moreover, are also able to handle increasingly complex tasks. In terms of robotisation, construction industry is still lagging behind other industries, but the first contractors to deliver 3D‐printed buildings or building components appear on the Dutch market. For construction, which has traditionally been an industry troubled by the “3D syndrome” (Dirty, Difficult, Dangerous), it can be good to have dangerous, heavy or dirty tasks taken over from people by machines. But what if there is no alternative work for these employees? What will be the future role of human labour in construction?
