Title Wagner, Bayreuth and the rest of the world Degree of recognition National Media name/outlet Diagonal, OE1, Austrian Broadcasting Agency – ORF Media type Radio Duration/Length/Size 12 Minutes Country/Territory Netherlands Date 2/04/22 Description Richard Wagner is known for his complex compositions, which, as they say, nowhere sound as good as in the Mecca of Wagnerians - the Festspielhaus in Bayreuth. In his film "Wagner, Bayreuth and the rest of the world", German journalist Axel Brüggemann looks at the Bayreuth Festival, the so-called Wagnerians, the artists and the people of Bayreuth. Brüggemann shows them all as they are - without commenting on them, regardless of whether it is about the Wagner family itself, the conductor Christian Thielemann, or the Fleischhauer couple Rauch, who have been renting rooms to Festival visitors for generations. The film looks into the innermost workings of the Festival and tries to find out where else in the world the quasi-religious passion for Wagner the composer has found expression.
