Max is the head and founder of the Economic Engineering Group at DCSC.   The group's vision is to put economics and finance into systems and control.   The theoretical basis is formed by extending the familiar method of analogs to economics and finance.  This allows systems and control engineers to design, test, and control economic and financial systems using the same methods and know-how as they would for the familiar engineering systems.

Max received a master’s degree from the Delft University of Technology and a PhD from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Mechanical Engineering.  He then joined the faculty of the Department of Industrial Engineering at the University of California, Berkeley.  Following that, he was active in trading securities in the asset management industry. He has returned to academia to combine his systems and control theory background with his practical experience in the financial industry.
