Applying decomposition approaches to energy system optimization

During the 2023 ”The New York Times Climate Forward” event climate experts from various fields shared their views on the ongoing climate crisis. Their diverse backgrounds make it even more interesting, that topics regarding the energy sector dominate many responses; statements like ”clean energy transition”, ”production of fossil fuels like oil and gas”, or ”we need to stop burning coal” are the main takeaways.

Therefore, capturing the complexities of today's energy systems in (optimization) models becomes increasingly necessary. Since those models are quickly becoming to large to solve with conventional methods, my research interests evolve around the application of decomposition algorithms, and their potential gains for energy models.
