Abstract

Advanced electronic-based control systems demand a satisfactory performance over a wide range of operating conditions while at the same their low fabrication cost is a desired feature. These counteracting attributes can be satisfied if a detailed system modelling is employed in the controller design process. Rather than residing on reprogramming the intricate model-details in a control framework, an integrated framework is suggested in this article. Within this framework, the control designer taps into the already created databases of electronic components, selects the appropriate elements and simulates them in a control-oriented environment. Within this environment, certain issues (i.e., stability, robustness) can easily be verified. In this article, it is shown through a simple example of a high-frequency power amplifier that the system can easily be destabilized depending on the operating conditions, if the control-designer disregards the model details. The integration of electronic and control simulation packages assist in the overall design process, while allowing the use of low-cost electronic components in high performance systems.
