Topological Photonics with Bichromatic Photonic Crystals

We investigate the spectrum of bichromatic photonic crystals, a novel class of nanostructures which represent a photonic analog of topological insulators. Nontrivial topology is illustrated by the formation of strongly localized, topologically protected boundary states.
