Abstract
Research has shown that staying indoors is not good for our health. People spend more and more of their time indoors. An overview is presented of how the four indoor environmental factors (air, thermal, lighting and acoustical quality) can affect your health. Providing a healthy and comfortable indoor environment is very important, but is seems to be hampered by a lack of knowledge and wrong use of available knowledge. A holistic approach towards research and education is required to tackle this issue is recommended. A first step towards
this multi-disciplinary research and educational programme is the creation of the SenseLab.
The SenseLab will on the one hand contribute to the understanding of and coping with the indoor environment, and on the other make it possible for students, teachers, researchers, but also the general public to experience and test different combinations of environmental conditions.
